This is the first painting finished in this collection. It started out with a rough sketch, which can still be seen through the layers. I loved the initial movement of raw charcoal, and then the raw movement of the acrylics on top, and I was afraid of losing it when rendering the deers. All of the attention is on the deer - the big stag standing and kissing its partner (or friend) who is lying in the grass. They're sharing a moment - of presence, connection and stillness.
