Flower | Neuronal dendrites and synapses
Original watercolour A3.
These paintings explore the delicate dance of memory
and learning. Birds and flowers drift across the paper: symbols of memories that flutter in and out of reach, carrying the fleeting, fragile quality of recalled thoughts and the organic, ever-shifting landscape of the mind.
Neuronal dendrites and synapses form the living
architecture of learning, with dendrites branching outward to receive signals and synapses acting as the contact points through which neurons communicate.
With experience, these structures change (synapses strengthen or weaken, dendritic branches grow or retract) allowing learning to emerge through shifting patterns of connection. Memory is not stored in one place but in these dynamic networks, where repeated activity stabilizes certain pathways, making them easier to reactivate, while unused connections fade, enabling the brain to adapt, refine, and reorganize its understanding over time.
