About the Artwork

In this painting, memories are represented in the form of hummingbirds (for their fleeting nature). The birds are flying around a figure walking away, representing how we carry our memories wherever we may go. The woman is holding a glass of wine the same colour as the birds, as the recollections relate to each other. On the other hand, she is holding a branch of a neuron (a dendrite with synapses) where memories are stored in the brain.

Neurons connect with each other through synapses: small spaces between these cells that allow for information transmission in the form of chemical and electrical exchanges. Synapses are crucial for the brain's plasticity, and are the basis of memories in the brain. In my paintings, memories are represented as fleeting birds and flowers floating around the shapes of neurons and synapses.
